Sephora | Beauty School Basics: Makeup 101 Class
I was curious about the makeup classes Sephora offered so I decided to sign up for one. The class ended up only being half-full so if you want to sign up for a class but it’s full, go on the waiting list. They call the attendees the day of to see if they’re still going to make it and if spots open up they’ll let you know.
The class went from 7 – 9:30 PM and it’s held right in the store. It’s after closing hours so you basically have the whole Sephora to yourself, sorta 😉 For this class they had three tables set up, each table sat four people.
The first thing you did was pick out the makeup you were going to play with, I mean use, during the class. For that you went over to the Beauty Studio, where they already picked out a few popular, works for almost everyone, BB creams, eye shadow palettes, contour/highlighter/blush palettes, and lipstick. They had the BB creams grouped by light, medium, and dark. The eye shadow palettes were grouped by eye color.
Once we picked our products we went around the room for introductions. Each person was to state our name and the first beauty product we ever used! I can’t even remmeber but I’m sure mine was lip gloss, I was addicted to the stuff as a kid.
Keep in mind this was a basics class, so we went over/applied the following (along with the product I used):
Moisturizer – Sephora Collection Instant Moisturizer $22
BB Cream – boscia B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27 PA++ $38
Translucent powder – I can’t remember what I used but other options were MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Pressed Powder $36 and tarte Smooth Operator™ Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder $32 I already have both of these so they picked something else out but I can’t find it online.
Contour/Blush/Highlighter – Urban Decay Naked Flushed in Naked $30
Eyeshadow Primer – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube – Original $12
Eye Shadow – Urban Decay Naked2 Palette $54
Eye Liner (Pencil or Liquid) – stila Stay All Day® Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black $20
Mascara – Josie Maran Argan Black Oil Mascara $22
Including the instructor and the model there were six Sephora staffers to help out with any questions or if anyone needed any assistance.
What I loved the most, was getting to play with the brush set they had for the class. It was in a nice travel case with at least twenty brushes and it was brand new! The brushes were still wrapped in plastic, to me that’s like the brand new car smell. Sadly I didn’t take a picture of it and they currently don’t sell the set. I’m sure when they do they’ll run at least $350.
After the class was done they let you shop for like twenty minutes. That was another nice perk.
Have you taken a class yet? Or are you thinking about it? I highly suggest it, especially since it’s free, and it’s a great thing to do with some friends. But be warned, classes fill up fast.
