Almay | Oil Free Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Review

I purchased this item from Walgreens on a “extreme couponing” adventure. With it being on sale and coupon stacking I think I got it for about $0.30. Or it might have been a “money-maker” I can’t remember. Anyways, I finally got around to trying it out and here’s what I think about it.

Ingredients

The closest thing I could find on EWG’s Skin Deep was Almay’s Oil Free Gentle Eye Makeup Remover Pads but I’m guessing they should be practically the same thing but just with the pads so I’ll use that. They gave it a 3 (on a scale of 10) for toxicity. Mostly for the DIAZOLIDINYL UREA (FORMALDEHYDE RELEASER)POLOXAMER 184, and PHENOXYETHANOL ingredients. Seems like it lives up to it’s “gentle” claim, ingredient-wise, at least.

Review

I like to use every last bit of products but I just couldn’t take it anymore with this one. It was ineffective and irritating! I really didn’t expect much from it since it was labeled as “gentle” but I really had to work at getting all the makeup off. By the time I felt I got enough of my mascara and eyeliner off my eyes were red and tears were running my face. I wasn’t crying but my eyes stung so bad they had teared up.  I dreaded taking off my makeup at night. The only thing about this product that I liked was the scent, like sweet cucumbers. I would use this on days where I just wear eye shadow or maybe for blush and foundation but I won’t use this for mascara or eyeliner.

I’m not saying it won’t work for everyone… this was just my experience with it. But I can say that I won’t be buying it again!

Verdict: Not for "heavy" makeup.

Have you tried it? I hope you had a better experience with it than I did.
